Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Functional Communication to Replace Challenging Behaviors

Session Description

This session presentation will give a brief overview of the importance of using communication to decrease challenging behavior in nonverbal or minimally verbal individuals with autism spectrum disorders. It will discuss what functional communication training is and provide the audience with some guidance on how to implement it in everyday life. Part of the presentation will focus on enhancing self-advocacy through functional communication training.
