November 8, 2016: Functional Assessment and Replacement Behaviors
Presenter:
Staci Horsley, M.Ed., BCBA
Autism/Behavior Specialist and Consultant
Focus:
A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is a comprehensive and individualized, problem solving process that addresses challenging behavior. It incorporates a variety of techniques and strategies to gather information as a means of understanding the specific reasons for the student’s problem behavior and how a student’s behavior relates to or is affected by his/her environment. Identifying the function of behavior allows us to then teach desired replacement behaviors that serve the same function.
Objectives:
1. Participants will be familiar with defining target behaviors.
2. Participants will be familiar with the components of a functional assessment
3. Participants will be familiar with the purpose of identifying and teaching replacement behaviors
